Specification
An expansion bolt, also referred to as an expansion anchor or mechanical anchor, is a specialized fastener used to secure objects to solid, non-hollow substrates such as concrete, brick, stone, or masonry. Unlike traditional screws or bolts, expansion bolts rely on a unique mechanical action to create a strong, reliable hold in brittle or rigid materials.
The bolt typically consists of four main components:
Threaded Bolt: A metal rod with threads to engage with a nut.
Expansion Sleeve: A split sleeve (often made of metal or nylon) that expands radially when compressed.
Nut and Washer: Used to tighten the assembly and activate the expansion mechanism.
Tapered End: A cone-shaped tip that forces the sleeve outward during tightening.
How It Works
When installed, the expansion bolt is inserted into a pre-drilled hole matching its diameter. As the nut is tightened, the threaded bolt is pulled upward, driving the tapered end into the expansion sleeve. This forces the sleeve to expand outward, pressing firmly against the walls of the hole. The resulting friction and mechanical interlock distribute loads evenly, enabling the bolt to withstand significant tension, shear, or vibration forces.Applications

Insert the Bolt: Push the expansion sleeve and bolt into the hole.
Tighten the Nut: Use a wrench to tighten the nut, activating the expansion mechanism.
